Princess Pub and Grille is the 4th in my series of Pubs around San Diego. I wanted to try something traditional, and while the fish and chips looked tempting, the steak and mushroom pie looked more interesting. I picked well. Plenty of food, the pie was topped with a puff pastry that reminded me of my childhood, paired with plenty of mashed potatoes and mixed veg to fill you up and put you in a mood for a nap. Other items on the menu included shepards pie, fish tacos, burgers and shrimp chipotle stuffed cod. Loved the atmosphere, they had cute British sayings around the room as well as two working fireplaces. I’m sure there is a dart board somewhere in here.
Date destination? I would say it depends on your date. If she likes casual pub atmospheres, great, but go with her personality on this one. If she hasn’t mentioned casual pubs before this place really isn’t dressed to impress a lady on a date. If she would rather have white table clothes and a water view take her a couple blocks down the way on the bay. The food is good, the lights are dim and the prices are reasonable for Little Italy.
